Plainview FCCLA and FFA will be hosting a community blood drive with the American Red Cross on Tuesday, November 19, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Plainview High School Tartan Gym.

On November 10th the Plainview Arts Council will welcome their second performance group, the Bathtub Dogs, an acapella group from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. The group performs popular music from decades past including rock, Rhythm and Blues and pop music. The performance in Plainview will take place in the Plainview High School Auditorium at 2 p.m. Admission charged at the gate for adults and students; and arts council members are admitted with their season pass.

The Plainview Pirates girls’ cross country team finished up its season at the Class D District Three Invite in Ainsworth on Thursday, Oct. 17.
The trio of Morgan Nincehelser, Kenzie Mosel, and Ashlyn Forbes represented the Pirates at the invite held on Thursday, with hopes of advancing their season to the 2024 NSAA State Championships in Kearney on Friday, Oct. 25.
Plainview High youth Landon Hergert, son of Danny and Donna Hergert, was notified that his audition had been selected, and he was invited to the Nebraska Music Education Association All-State Band. “This is the highest honor a musician can achieve in the state of Nebraska,” said Wynter Fulsaas, band instructor.
Hergert will be performing at the Lied Center in Lincoln on November 22.
The Plainview Lady Pirates cross country team took part in the inaugural Greater Northeast Activities Conference Invite on Thursday, Oct. 10 at Plainview Country Club.
On their home course, the Pirates had four competitors, including three high school runners and one junior high harrier.
In the high school girls’ race, the Pirates had three runners, which was enough to put the Pirates in the running for a team title.
Unfortunately, the Pirates weren’t able to capture any hardware for their efforts.
The Plainview Pirates saw their record move to 10-12 as the season winds down after their past week of play, which began on Tuesday, Oct. 8 and ended on Saturday, Oct. 12.
In their most recent day of contests, the Pirates traveled to Bancroft-Rosalie high school for a four-team tournament on Saturday, Oct. 12.
In the four-team tournament, each contest was shortened to a best-of-three matchup, which made it important for teams to get in their groove early on in each matchup.
Unfortunately, in what was their third contest of the day against the Stanton Mustangs, the Pirates struggled to get things going, and quickly fell behind.

The Plainview Pirates continued to fight through their gauntlet of a schedule with a contest against the number one team in Class D1, the Stanton Mustangs, on Friday, Oct. 11 in Stanton.
This contest against Stanton marked the Pirates’ third regular season top-ten matchup of the 2024 season. Unfortunately, it also marked the Pirates’ third loss.

Bruce Curtiss, who has been lead instructor for local hunter safety classes in recent years, recently announced that ongoing workload plus staffing shortages have made it impractical for him to put on a local Hunter Safety class this year.
Young hunters are advised to check the Nebraska Game Commission website for opportunities for both on-line and in person classes.
Looking to the future, additional volunteer instructors are needed, and could use Plainview both for apprentice teaching, and to set up in person classes.
Interested volunteers can contact Bruce Curtiss for information, or contact the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission offices.
The Plainview Public School fourth grade came for a guided tour of the 1880 Depot Museum given by the Historical Society members on September 25th.
Fifteen high school and junior high bands marched through downtown Wayne on Saturday, Oct. 5, during Wayne State College’s annual Homecoming Parade and Band Day festivities.
October 2nd was the final day of the Plainview Farmers Market for the 2024 season, complete with an honors and Awards presentation was held at noon.
The vendors presented market manager, Dick Haskin, with a Casey’s gift certificate, cash, and card for his service to the Plainview Farmers Market.
This was Haskin’s final year as manager of the market. Chad Kment will be stepping in to manage the market next year.
Downtown Trick or Treating will again be hosted by the Plainview Chamber of Commerce this year.
On October 31 from 5-6:30 p.m. Locust Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Elm Street to King Street, and Main Street will be closed from Highway 20 to Locust Avenue.
All businesses and organizations in Plainview are invited to participate. Bring a table and set up on the sidewalks along Locust Avenue or Main Street.

The Plainview High School Homecoming Coronation as held on Friday, Oct. 4, with Karter Lingenfelter and Hannah Darnall crowned as this year’s king and queen.

The Plainview Pirates found heartbreak for the second time this season in a tough loss to the Summerland Bobcats in a top ten matchup on Friday, Sept. 27 in Plainview.
Entering the contest, both teams boasted records of 3-1 and both were ranked inside the top ten in Nebraska High School Football Class D1 standings. Summerland entered the game as the fifth-ranked team, while Plainview stood tall at number eight.
The Plainview play production team has held auditions and is getting ready to take the stage for the 2024 season.
After a successful 2023 season that ended with Plainview performing at the Johnny Carson Theater in Norfolk, the Pirates play production squad is gearing up for another fun-filled year that hopefully goes as smooth as last season.
The Plainview Lady Pirates volleyball team improved their season record to 5-6 after going 1-1 this past week in matchups with Wausa and Laurel-Concord- Coleridge (LCC).
In their most recent contest of the week, the Pirates took on the 14-2 LCC Bears in Plainview on Thursday, Sept. 19.
The Plainview Pirate Marching band traveled to Norfolk last Saturday morning to take part in the annual Norfolk Lions Club parade. Under the direction of instructor Wynter Fulsaas, the band marched through downtown and back up to the Norfolk High School. To cap off the day, the Pirates were notified that they had also won second place in the Class D competition.
The Plainview Pirates volleyball team had a solid week, as Plainview improved its 2024 season record to 4-5 as the season begins to reach the halfway point.

A freshman at Plainview High School, Adryck Stewart, has been invited to participate in a wrestling event in Bahrain in the Middle East.
Stewart would be representing the United States Team at the tournament, and the trip will take him overseas from October 19 to November 1.
As part of the offer, he’s required to raise funding to help pay expenses for his trip, which will take him 7,292 miles (according to Google) to the country, which is located just off the coast of Saudi Arabia to the east in the Persian Gulf.
The Pirate Boosters are organizing efforts to help raise the funds, and donations can be sent to Toby King at 447 4th St., Brunswick, NE 68720.
