Plainview Elementary’s annual Christmas program was held on Monday, Dec. 16 with a near packed house in the Pirate Auditorium as youth in the preschool to 6th grade sang, danced and played their instruments for parents, friends and family.
The evening’s performances were under the direction of Plainview Schools music instructors – Wynter Fulsaas and Britney Beegle.
Preschool, kindergarten and first-grade all sang two songs with favorites and new mixed together, along with actions and props.
The second-grade had a special, longer, version of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” that got great applause.
The third, fourth, fifth and sixth-graders each had two songs, including some dance numbers. There were some songs on recorder, as well as a number of performances by the organized class bands.
The Klown Doll Museum had a banner year for visitors due to being selected to participate in the 2024 Nebraska Tourism Passport Program. Typically each year there are 350 applications for 70 Passport Stops and we were chose this year! The Tourism office in Lincoln told us that 1,503 digital passports were recorded and even more were hand stamped by us. We had 968 visitors sign our guest book and there were many more that did not sign. This is 688 more registered visitors than 2023! They came from 123 Nebraska towns, 27 states, and 5 foreign countries.
The Plainview Social Center has their annual Snowflake Tree up at the Center. This tree is put up each year as a memorial tree in honor of our loved ones that have passed away or can be donated to a very special person in your life. Each year family members of friends donate money to the Center in honor of their loved ones. Then a Snowflake is placed on the tree at the center. This is a great way to remember and honor your loved ones. If you are wanting to donate please bring your donations in to the Center or send them to Box 206, Plainview.
The Plainview girls’ wrestling team travelled to Atkinson for the West Holt Lady Husky Invite to kick off the 2024-25 season on Monday, Dec. 9. At their first invite of the year, the Lady Pirates competed against athletes from 13 other schools in the area.
The Lady Pirates earned 12th place as a team with 21 team points, out-performing both Elgin Public/Pope John and St. Mary’s. Leading the way for the Lady Pirates was Charley Pittet, who earned third place in her weight class to score 13 team points for Plainview.

The Plainview Pirate Junior Varsity boys basketball team took to the road on Saturday for a tournament in Randolph, taking championship honors in the morning event.
The Pirates first played against Wynot, winning that game, and then took on Laurel-Concord-Coleridge in the second game of the day, taking a win there also, giving them the first place finish.

The Plainview Chamber of Commerce capped off its Hometown Holidays celebration this past Monday evening with the annual Christmas Parade of Lights.
This year’s winner was Farmers Pride, taking the judges’ honors and the traveling trophy.
Altwine Hardware was the second-place pick for the judges, and North Central Public Power was marked as third.
The evening was wrapped up with a free will donation in the back room of Mary’s Restaurant, with Santa taking Christmas wishes and a number of decorated trees.

The Cowboy Recreation and Nature Trail sections near Neligh and Long Pine have reopened to the public after repairs were made from the 2019 flood.
Repairs 2 miles west of Neligh included bank stabilization and new trail surfacing. Trail users now can enjoy a closer view of the Elkhorn River in this area. Repairs a mile east of Long Pine included installation of new culverts, rebuilding the embankment, and trail surfacing. More information on the trail may be found at OutdoorNebraska.gov.
Beginning in Norfolk and spanning 317 miles west to Chadron, the Cowboy Trail is one of the largest Rails-to-Trails projects in the United States. The Cowboy Trail is free to access and open to hiking, biking, and equestrian use.
The Pirates traveled to Wakefield for a pre-season jamboree with the Trojans on Monday, December 2nd. The exhibition basketball game that featured both teams varsity teams getting some time on the court ahead of the beginning of the regular season which started Thursday in Pierce.
Recently the choices for D1-4 All District football were announced, with the Pirates having 4 All-District players as well as 4 honorable mentions from this year’s successful season.
The Pirates chosen for All-District are Jacson King, Karter Lingenfelter, Hayven Stewart, and Wyatt Schroth. Those chosen were honorable mention were Kohen Lingenfelter, Xander Albin, Harrison Thor, and Corben Kment.
Recently Plainview senior Wyatt Doerr enlisted with the United States Marine Corps. In the above picture Doerr sits next to Staff Sergeant Doering representing the Marine Corps, while standing behind are his father Justin Doerr and mother Melissa Doerr. In July of 2025 he heads to California for training.
On Friday, November 22nd Plainview Public Schools held it’s winter kickoff for the schools sports and activities going on this winter. Walking tacos were available with the proceeds going to the Sports Boosters before Plainview’s One Acts under the direction of Michelle Mosel performed this seasons show “The Very Unmerry Adventures of Robin Hood”.
The junior high and high school teams for bowling, wrestling, and
basketball then introduced themselves to the large crowd.
An auction was also held as a fundraiser with items such as reserved
activities parking, signed items from Plainview’s basketball and wrestling teams, and even some homemade cookies. There were also some activities the students participated in to amuse the crowd.
The junior high Lady Pirates held their season opener against the Battle Creek Bravettes on Thursday, November 14 at home in Plainview. With both teams starting their season with big wins over the Bravettes
The Plainview Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for 3 Brother’s Car Wash on Locust St. on Saturday, November 16th at 10:00 a.m. In the above picture John and Danielle Steinkraus with their children are cutting the ribbon at the car wash they built and own.
The unique name comes from their family “We named the car wash for our three boys; Ryker, Rex, and Riggson,” Danielle Steinkraus said. “We like to tell them they are the best brothers to each other. We do have more ‘three brothers’ within our family, though. I have three older brothers, John’s dad and my dad both have two brothers each. It just seemed to fit.”
Plainview’s One Act cast and crew traveled to Wausa on Monday, November 18th, to perform in the Swedish One Act Festival. It was the first performance of the season, and the Pirates received positive reviews from the judges.
“I was pleased with the first performance,” director Michelle Mosel stated. “The kids were spot on with their cues and lines. My only complaint is that we rushed, but that is typical for a first performance. Team scores were not kept for the event, however awards were given out for best acting performances.

One Act season has begun and Plainview’s team has begun practice of this year’s show “The Very Unmerry Adventures of Robin Hood” by Patrick Greene.
The season kicks off with a Monday, November 18th at the Swedish Festival at Wausa, a start time has not been determined. Then the next night the team performs at the GNAC conference event at Elkhorn Valley, with the performance starting at 9:45 a.m.
Then on Friday, November 22nd, the team will perform at home during the Winter Kickoff, starting at 7:00 p.m.
Finally District performances will be held on Tuesday, December 3rd, at 11:00 a.m. at Creighton.
In the more local elections Plainview City Council saw Tyler Sanne with 410 votes, followed by Sarah Mae Doty with 259, and Brian Schlote with 241. Plainview Public School board had a choice between 6 candidates with Justin Doerr coming out on top with 459, followed by Caden Alexander with 419, Chance Anderson with 391, Deb Jensen with 358, Trenton Tarr with 304, and Tom Krause with 289.
Darrell Hoffman, seen in the picture above along with his wife Claire at their home was honored with a Quilt of Valor but was unable to attend this year’s Veteran’s Day program. They have ten children, 29 grandchildren, 25 grandchildren spouses, and 50 great grandchildren.
He served his country in the Marines from 1952 to 1954.
The Plainview Pirates pulled off the biggest upset of the 2024 Class D1 state football tournament so far on Friday, Nov. 1 with a win against the undefeated Guardian Angels Central Catholic (GACC) Bluejays in West Point.
Thanks to their regular-season efforts, the Pirates entered the 2024 postseason with a record of 5-3, which was good enough for the Pirates to earn the 13th seed. This paired them up against the GACC Bluejays, who entered Friday’s contest undefeated and the four-seed in the tournament.
