
On Thursday, November 21 , at 7:30 p.m., the Lewis & Clark Natural Resources District (LCNRD) will host Dr. Dan Holtz and Dr. Gary Zalud from the Humanities Nebraska, who will perform “Heroism on the Plains: Story Songs of Courage and Determination.”

The winners for November have been drawn for the American Legion gun calender. In the picture above to the left is Amy Orr who won the $250 cash drawing winner. In the above right picture is Dale Sudbeck, otherwise known as Squeek, is holding his newly won gun funished by a smiling Doc Carlson, owner of Upper Missouri Trading Company. The Legion also wanted to announce that sales for the 2025 calendar have begun.


The Lady Warriors fought hard in the district final but fell short to the Johnson-Brock Eagles in five sets in Johnson on Saturday, November 2.
The Lady Warriors came out
sluggish in the first and second
sets and lost both (25-22, 25-18)
but quickly woke up for set three
and needed to pull off a reverse
sweep to finish up the game.
In the third set, senior Sammie
Allen had eight assists and senior
Lexi Wiebelhaus got six kills. This
set ended with the score 25-22
with the Warriors winning, which
shifted the momentum for sets
four and five.
The Warriors came out fighting
in the fourth, winning the set 25-
21.
In set five both teams were
fighting hard for the win, but unfortunately,
the Warriors fell short
ending their season (15-11).

After having a first round bye, the Lady Warriors took on the West Holt Huskies in the second round of Sub Districts on Tuesday, October 29. The Warriors defeated the Huskies in four sets with scores of; 25-17, 26-22, 19-25, and 25-18.
The Warriors moved on to the District Championship on Saturday, November 4 at 6:00pm.

The Crofton Warriors kept their season alive with a victory over the Thayer Central Titans in the NSAA Class D1 Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 1 in Crofton.
With their victory, the Warriors have now advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class D1 bracket, which puts them just two wins away from advancing to the 2024 Class D1 state championship game.


The City of Crofton wanted to make the community aware that the intersection of 5th Street and Iowa Street is now a four way stop.


The Avera Sacred Heart Hospital Toastmasters Club met on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024.
Gale Vogt served as Toastmaster, followed by Sheila Ulrich as General Evaluator. Anthony Jablonski, received the Best Speaker Award and Cleo Waters received the Best Evaluator Award.
Stan Sudbeck provided the invocation and timed all speakers. Steve Anderson tallied up “ahs, ums, and so’s.”
The club welcomes guests at any and all of their meetings.

Combines aren’t the only things rolling through the fields these days; the dust is too high this harvest season. There has been very little to pause harvest this season, with rain in such short supply.
In spite of the dry weather this fall, yields have been fairly good.
In Nebraska, the corn harvest is 63 percent complete according to the USDA, way ahead of the five-year average of 51 percent. While most of the soybeans have been harvested in our area, the USDA puts soybean harvest statewide at 85 percent, also far ahead of the five-year average.

The Warriors defeated the Guardian Angels Central Catholic Blue Jays on the Warriors’ Senior Night and last home game of the season on Thursday, October 18, moving their record to 18-5. The Warriors secured the game in a four-set battle finishing the game 26-24,18-25, 25-18, 25-15.
Not only was it Senior Night for all of the seniors but Jaida Allen reached a milestone of 1,000 assists at the Knox County Tournament on Tuesday, October 16 against Creighton. Allen stated, “ It feels so good! Although it’s not always about you as a setter, you have to rely on your hitters to put the ball down for you. I have to thank my whole team for reaching this amazing goal.”


The Crofton Warriors took the District Championship in Spencer with a win over Boyd County for the district championship on Friday, October 18.
The Players of the Week were Foxhoven for the defense with nine solo tackles, three assisted tackles, and two tackles for loss. Jackson was named for offense with 3 of 4 on passing, 13 rushes for 93-yards, and one touchdown.

Grant Schieffer (12), Morgan Stevens (11), Jack Schieffer (12), and Quinnlan Mosher (11) were selected for NMEA All State Choir. They will perform in Lincoln on October 22.


The Crofton Lady Warriors swept Wayne in three for their second to last regular season game (25-20, 25-23, 25-17) on Thursday, October 10 in Wayne.
The girls came out strong in the first set with senior Sammie Allen getting eight assists and two kills. Senior Jadia Allen also added six assists to help clinch the set for the Warriors.
The Blue Devils played the Warriors tighter in the second set (35-23) with great defense.
Crofton was able to pull off the win on the serving line. Senior Lexi Wiebelhaus had two aces and junior Addyson Ostermeyer added another two more.
The Warriors were able to win the match in the last set against the Blue Devils (25-17), with junior Jaisie Janssen slamming five kills and senior Annabelle Poppe adding two more.

The Crofton Community Club had announced the 2024 Homecoming Parade Grand Marshals, Stephanie and Scott Mann.
Mrs. Stephanie Mann was the Agricultural Education Instructor and FFA Advisor at Crofton Jr./Sr. High for the past 26 years.
Mr. Scott Mann farmed for Jim Herzog for 27 years and has been farming for Miller Land & Cattle since Jim retired. The couple has two sons, Jared and Austin who both graduated from Crofton. They enjoy spending time with Jared and Austin and their families. They have four grandchildren whom they adore and they look forward to spending even more time with their family and maybe traveling more in the future.


St Rose Religious Program of the CCD, Confirmation and FFY Students having the Candlelight Rosary Wednesday, Oct. 9.
The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary, one of the best known of all Catholic devotions.
October includes the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary (October 7).
“The best way to celebrate the month is, of course, to pray the Rosary.”


Sammie and Cassie Allen on their signed their official letters with Briar Cliff University to play basketball this past week. The family said the girls are “looking forward to playing at the collegiate level.
Thanks to the Briar Cliff coaching staff for giving them that opportunity.”


The Crofton Lady Warriors made quick work of the Knox County volleyball tournament this year in Wausa. The Crofton girls took a 2-0 sweep of Bloomfield on Oct. 14 and then doubled down on Creighton’s Lady Dawgs with a second 2-0 win to take the tournament.


The Nebraska Department of Natural Resources-Floodplain Management Division will be holding a training session in Albion on November 6.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Casey’s Community Building, at 2616 Fairgrounds Road in Albion. Those wishing to attend can come for a whole or half day, with a noontime lunch on their own.

The Rural Northwest Deanery Council of Catholic Women will hold its Fall Deanery Meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spencer.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with meeting to begin at 9:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m. Deacon Roger Filips will speak on Prayer, Discernment and Spirituality.
