The Crofton Lady Warriors opened their 2024 volleyball season against the Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats in Hartington on Thursday, August 29 with a win.
Crofton came out looking like they were on a mission to conquer their goals: getting their first win of the season. When they took the court for warm ups, it looked like they were picking up from where they left off last season, excited to work their way back to another state appearance.
Crofton Cross Country coach Mickey Doerr says this year will be more of a reload than a rebuild.
After graduating seniors Elizabeth Wortmann and three-time State Champion Jordyn Arens from the girls team, Coach Doerr will have to fill their shoes.
“Rylie Arens, Sophia Wortmann, and Emily Guenther, have a lot of experience that will be huge for us collectively. The team will need to raise its floor so that no one person needs to carry the team,” coach Mickey Doerr stated.

Arens wrote an individual historical paper about the Battle of Khe Sanh, a major battle in the Vietnam War. Arens earned his bid to Nationals when the second place paper dropped out before the National competition.
Stout did an individual performance about Grace Fryer, who “was the first Radium Girl that sued U.S. Radium for poisoning girls that worked in the radium firm.”
