
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is accepting offers for more than 2.2 million acres from agricultural producers and private landowners through this year’s Grassland, General, and Continuous Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) signups administered by USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA). With these accepted acres, enrollment is very near the 27 million CRP acreage cap.

According to valuation figures released by the Knox County Assessor’s office this week, the majority of taxing agencies will receive access to an additional 16% for their fundraising this year.
As a whole, Knox County saw an increase of around $486 million over the 2024 year - to settle at right at a 16.5% increase over the previous year’s numbers.

The 2024 Crofton Cruisin’ Day event will be held this weekend, Saturday, Aug. 24 in Crofton’s South Park along Highway 12.
The day will offer the annual car show, grillfest and live music through the afternoon.
This event will be held in conjunction with the Crofton citywide rummage and Crazy days sales.

When students went back to school last week, they probably talked about their summer, but these St. Rose School eighth grade students might've had a summer to top them all.
Collyns Stout and Ben Arens attended National History Day in Washington D.C. in June this summer along with 6,000 students from around the country and the world.
Arens wrote an individual historical paper about the Battle of Khe Sanh, a major battle in the Vietnam War. Arens earned his bid to Nationals when the second place paper dropped out before the National competition.
Stout did an individual performance about Grace Fryer, who “was the first Radium Girl that sued U.S. Radium for poisoning girls that worked in the radium firm.”

Crofton Community Club members and their families handed out ice cream and pencils to students at the Crofton Community Elementary and St. Rose back-to-school open house Monday, August 12th. “We had a beautiful evening to welcome kids and their parents, teachers, and staff back to school. Have a safe and happy school year!” said organizers.


Some of the members, Janet Lammers, Laverta Mauch and Jeannie Donner, of the St Rose Respect Life group helped to touch up the Pro Life symbols in front of the Crofton Journal this week.
A number of years ago the group had done the logos on sidewalks downtown
as a fundraise.

Yankton's iconic Dakota Theater will be bursting with country, western, and gospel music on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 7:00 p.m.
Performers will be Greg Hager, Jan Schiferl and friends.
Greg Hager is a Nashville-produced musician.
Jan Schiferl is a singer, song-writer, & story teller.

The paper will be late this week, likely delivered on Thursday instead of Wednesday.

Work contracted locally by the Crofton City Council is nearing completion right on schedule, just before the new school year
starts. The Council had agreed to strip, remove, resettle and re-pour the entirety of Fourth Street from Highway 12 to Iowa
between Crofton Elementary and St. Rose.


The Crofton Seniors Legion baseball team had won every single game since July 23. However, in the State tournament, the local Legion boys lost to Albion in the first round game, 3-1, in Wakefield, then lost again, 8-0 to Pender to end their run.

Crofton beat rival Wynot, 5-2 on August 1 to punch their ticket to another State berth. Serving as the representative number two from District 68, the Jays eliminated Wynot from State contention. The Crofton High School class of 2004 gathered for a reunion event on Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Crofton Haymarket downtown.


As the final racers crossed the finish line mid-morning on Saturday, July 27, the 2024 Dam Race came to a close with around 314 competitors able to rest after a day of kayaking, running and biking, each to their own race. Results can be found on https://www.croftonsdamrace.com/



Crofton Community Schools’ track team hosted its first “vault camp” for aspiring pole vaulters on the team. Thirdteen vaulters from junior high, high school and college competed on July 21. They teammates were under the direction of two All-American college vaulters: Zach Zohner a 2-time NAIA National Champion and Mayson Ostermeyer, who was 5th at the Indoor Nationals.




Keith Kube of Crofton served as an alternate Delegate to the National Republication Convention in Milwaukee, Wisc. from Sunday, July 13 to Friday, July 19. Kube is on the state central committee for Nebraska, and joined 71 other delegates from Nebraska to cast the state’s vote for the Republican nominee for the 2024 General Election.
