Korver Lingenfelter with his champion trophy for winning his age bracket at state free throw competition in York.

Plainview 6th grader Korver Lingenfelter, son of Kevin and Kelly Lingenfelter, recently competed in numerous levels of the Elks Club “Hoop Shoot” Free Throw contest in the 12-13-year-old division.

The contest is a competition where each participant shoots a total of 25 free throws by shooting 10 the first round and 15 the second round for a total of 25.

The first competition was the local contest held in Norfolk on January 4th. Korver won the Norfolk event by making 21-25 free throws. By winning in Norfolk, he qualified for the district level competition in York, on Feb 1st.

Lingenfelter came out on top in this event by making 23-25.

Winning the district event qualified him for the State competition on February 22nd also in York.

Against stiff competition, he made 24-25 free throws to claim the title as Nebraska State Champion in the 12-13 year old division.

By winning the state level competition, Lingenfelter qualified for the Regional Finals in Colorado Springs, Colo. on March 15th.

The Regional competition consisted of the state champion from the states of Nebraska, Kansas, Wyoming, and Colorado, so four shooters total in each age division.

The winner of the regional competition qualified for the National Finals in Chicago, IL on April 26.

Unfortunately for Lingenfelter, he didn’t shoot his best in Colorado and came in fourth place by making 16-25.

Although disappointed in the finish, he said he had a great time in Colorado and was happy to make it as far as he did and is already looking forward to competing again next year.
