Smash ‘em, MASH ‘em, sis boom bah! The Crofton One Act took districts head on Friday, Dec 2 in Macy, Nebraska. For five years Crofton has come just short of qualifying for the state meet, and now they’ve ended that drought, being named District C1-4 Champions.
The One Act was given first place with a 60, (60 being a perfect score) second place with a 59 and another first with a 60 by three judges at the competition.
Winning districts and qualifying for the state meet is a big deal. Senior Rori Schmidt, Maj. Margaret Houlihan (Hot lips), stated, “Winning districts means a lot to me, it’s something that as a senior I have been working towards for four years now and it meant a lot to finally get what I’ve been working toward for all those years.”
Schmidt also stated, “I wanted to make it to state mostly for my team because everyone should be able to have the experience of going to state. Now that the underclassmen can experience it for themselves, I hope that they will strive even harder in their following years to make it back to the state competition.”
Along with winning districts, the tech crew also got first place. Sophomore Madelyn Loecker (Stage Manager) said, “Sometimes tech doesn’t get the recognition that they deserve. I think that this was a good way for them to feel like they are really needed for the play to be as good as it is.”
The Crofton One Act will participate in the state competition on Thursday, Dec. 8 at the Johnny Carson Theatre in Norfolk. They will start the play at 3:45 p.m. The first performance of Class C1 will start at 2:15 p.m. Admission will be charged at the door.
