Three Crofton young people recently competed in the National Junior High and State High School rodeo competitions this past weekend, qualifying for the National competitions in their respective events in the coming weeks and month.
Jacee Anthony competed and qualified for Nationals at the Junior High Rodeo event in Hastings; Josie Anthony competed in Senior High barrel racing and pole bending; and Tatum Olsen competed in the Senior High team roping, reined cow horse and boys’ cutting.
Crofton eighth-grader, Jacee Anthony will be headed for the National Junior High Rodeo in Perry, Ga. next week, June 19-26. Only four out of the state qualify.
Jacee Anthony got third place at State finals, which was held in Hastings last week. She finished 28th and 29th in the high school barrel racing and pole bending respectively. She also recorded a time of 19.424 for her barrel racing run.
Jacee Anthony said about her experience “I really like having my friends there and the support I get from them. I love building the relationship with my horse, and rodeos are what I like most. I find joy in it, and the adrenaline when I run is the best.”
Tatum Olsen from Bloomfield, who is a recent Crofton graduate, qualified for Nationals at the State High School Rodeo also in Hastings this past week.
He finished 22nd as a team roping heeler, and was also announced as state champion in reined cow horse finals, and sixth in boy’s cutting.
Nationals for High School division will take place in Gillette, Wyoming this July.
Olsen said “I enjoy the pressure of doing as good as you possibly can. It’s an exciting sport. I’m pretty excited to go to Gillette and compete.”
