The 1930 Model A Ford fire truck is the one everyone waits for during the annual Homecoming parade at Crofton every fall; and it has been a treasure of the Crofton Volunteer Fire Department for 94 years.
Crofton firemen, Paul Schoenberner and Michael Guenther are tasked with driving the fire truck for parades in Crofton or even in the Yankton area. The fire truck is featured at the Homecoming parade and even took part in the Yankton Fire Department’s 150th anniversary parade late last month, Guenther said.
The Crofton Fire Department has kept this antique fire truck up and running all these years. It is stored and maintained in the fire department hall in Crofton, which was constructed in 1988.
This Model A fire truck was bought new in 1930 for $2000 by the Crofton Village Board. It took delivery to Crofton on July 2, 1931. It was then used as the main fire truck to fight town fires in Crofton.
