Homecoming week is a beloved tradition in high schools and colleges all across the country, bringing the students, alumni, and whole community together to celebrate school spirit and pride.
As you may know, each year schools pick unique and exciting themes and make fancy looking floats to make homecoming week unforgettable.
In 2023, Crofton High School embarked on an awesome adventure with a lineup of dress up days that include Jungle Day, Fast Food Day, Celebrity Day, Class Color Day, and School Spirit Day.
The week started off with a roar as students transformed into creatures and jungle explorers Jungle Day. The winner was senior Elizabeth Wortmann, with an inflatable costume making it seem as if she was riding a tiger. Others were dressed as explorers and different animals. It was a day of creativity and imagination, where the school was transformed into a jungle paradise.
Favorite Food Day was a tasty twist for the second day of Homecoming week. Students embraced their favorite food, dressing up as burgers, fries, tacos, and many more delicious foods. The winner of the second day was seventh grader Makenah Steffen, who was dressed up as an ice cream sundae with a cherry on top. It was one of the student’s favorite days because you could be very creative with your costume.
On day three, the halls in the school were practically red carpets with the amount of famous people roaming the halls. Students channeled their inner celebrities, emulating their favorite stars from the worlds of music, movies, and sports. The winner of celebrity day was sophomore Josh Palensky, dressing up as famous rapper, Ice Spice. Some honorable mentions were Bob Ross and Michael Jackson. From pop icons to painting legends, the creativity was limitless.
The fourth day was Class Color Day. With seventh graders being orange, eighth graders being yellow, freshmen being green, sophomores being blue, juniors being pink, and seniors decked out in red. The winner, seventh grader Emma Birger, wore to outshine the competition. It really showed how dedicated all these students were as almost everyone dressed in their class color.
The grand finale of homecoming week was School Spirit Day. It was a sea of school colors and cheers as students and faculty came together to show their unwavering support for the school. There was now winner for spirit day, because nearly everyone wore school shirts and colors.
The coronation candidates were Seth Pinkleman, Jace Foxhoven, William Steffen, Jack Drotzmann, Josie Anthony, Jenna Jackson, Caitlin Guenther, Ellie Tramp.
The winners of Homecoming king and queen were William Steffen and Caitlin Guenther.
The hallway and float designs were all fast food related this year and there were some very creative ideas.
The seventh graders chose Raisin Cane’s, the eighth graders chose Jimmy Johns, freshmen chose Runza, sophomores chose Taco Bell, juniors chose Burger King, and the seniors chose McDonalds.
The seniors won the best looking hallway and the best looking float.
Although everyone didn’t win, every hallway and float looked amazing. This is the best way to celebrate homecoming week!
Homecoming week was a whirlwind of creativity, enthusiasm, and school pride. The diverse themes allowed students to showcase their individuality while also fostering a sense of unity and belonging. From the wild jungles to the bright lights of Hollywood, students brought their A-game and celebrated their school in style. As the week came to an end, one thing was clear: the spirit of Crofton High School was stronger than ever, and the memories created during homecoming will last a lifetime.
