Mayson Ostermeyer, former Crofton Track and Field standout (class of 2022) and current member of the Concordia University Track and Field team, raised $404 for the Crofton track programs through his freshman season at Seward.
In his writing class, Ostermeyer was assigned to design a service project to help better a community and he wanted to create a project with tangible results. His project, called “Foot To Dollar,” consisted of contacting businesses to ask them to donate one dollar for every foot he pole vaulted throughout his college season, which amounted to 202 feet.
CJ’s at the Lake and Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Crofton participated in Ostermeyer’s project and both businesses donated $202 each for a total of $404 raised.
Head Crofton Track and Field coach Mickey Doerr was impressed with Ostermeyer’s project.
“Mayson had an awesome idea and ran with it, and as a program we are really grateful to him and the businesses that participated. Of course I’m happy that he helped out the track and field programs, but big picture it is great to see Crofton alumni doing what they can to give back to their community, and I hope his efforts inspire others to do the same. Certainly for us the money donated to the track and field programs will make an immediate difference and allow us to purchase implements and equipment we otherwise would have been unable to.”
Ostermeyer plans on continuing the project next year and hopefully beyond. “I would like to make a shirt with all the companies’ logos on the back and wear it for warm-ups to every meet possible. It would be amazing if other companies joined in to make this project grow to something I would never have imagined it to be!”
