Governor - Governor Jim Pillen spoke with students about careers and college during their luncheon at the Governor's Mansion.

A talk on careers by Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen and a chance meeting at Memorial Stadium with Husker men’s basketball coach, Fred Hoiberg, were among the highlights from the 52nd annual St. Rose School 8th grade Lincoln Citizenship Trip this past Friday, Apr. 14. 

Students began by visiting the State Capitol building, where the Nebraska Legislature was in session. In addition to riding to the top viewing deck of the Capitol, students also visited the legislative gallery and listened in on senators debating bills. They were recognized from the floor of the legislature by the senators.Following a tour of the Governor’s Mansion, students enjoyed a luncheon at the Governor’s residence. Gov. Pillen stopped by briefly to visit with students about choosing their careers, studying and working hard, and remaining in Nebraska to work and raise their families some day. Pillen posed for a photo with students as well. 

During a brief stop at Memorial Stadium to view bowl and championship trophies and the Husker weight room, Husker men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg greeted students and posed for a photo. 

The group viewed a Planetarium show on the deepest parts of the ocean in Mueller Planetarium in the state museum at Morrill Hall. To close out the day, the 8th graders toured the University of Nebraska Catholic ministry on campus at the Newman Center, and took a few minutes for Eucharistic Adoration in the beautiful St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel at the Newman Center. Eighth graders attending this year’s trip included Tyson Jackson, Trevor Allen, Trace Tramp, Kolton Vornhagen, Luke DeRoos, Elizabeth DeRoos, Brooklyn Guenther, Brooklyn Wiebelhaus, Madelyn Buschkamp, and Jazzmyn Wieseler.
