West Holt Girls Golf
The West Holt Huskies girls golf team continued their reign of success at the West Holt Invite on Thursday, August 31.
The invite featured a lot of good teams from Class C and offered a chance for the Huskies to see where they truly stood amongst their peers.
The day was warm and windy, with gusts of up to 25 miles per hour, conditions were tough for the field.
Although the Huskies weren’t able to re-create their record-breaking performance due to the tough conditions, they put up a good fight.
Leading the way for the Huskies on the front nine was freshman Dalenin Knust with a 45 at the turn. Following closely behind her for the Huskeis was Brinley Kerkman with a 50 and Abby Mathis with a 55. Rounding out the top four for the Huskies was Brooklynn Butterfield with a 60 and Ansley Cadwallader with a 64.
Heading into the back nine just seven strokes behind O’Neill, the Huskies knew they would have to rally together if they wanted a chance at taking home the gold at their home meet.
While the Huskies were able to come back stronger on the back nine, improving their team scroe by a total of nine strokes, O’Neill was able to show enough consistency to hold off the Huskies by just two strokes.
The Huskies shot a team score of 412 to earn themselves the runner-up team plaque, second only to O’Neill.
The Husky junior varsity team showed up to compete as well. With a team score of 520 and a 15th-place medalist, the J-V earned 7th place at the invite, beating a total of three varsity squads.
