The West Holt Husky football team fell to Doniphan-Trumbell on Friday, September 1 by a score of 40-0 to move their record to 1-1 on the season.
Entering the game, the Huskies were coming off of a big win against Valentine, while the Cardinals of D-T were entering the contest upset after a week one loss to Kearney Catholic by a score of 22-13.
Unfortunately for the Huskies, the Cardinals were able to channel their anger and frustration into points on the board.
The contest started off defensively strong, with neither team being able to get much going offensively. After one quarter of action, D-T lead the Huskies by just one score, 8-0.
The Cardinals offense was able to come alive in the second quarter, however, as D-T would put up 24 unanswered points in the second quarter, giving them a comfortable 32-0 lead heading into halftime.
While the Huskies never laid down and quit, the deficit was just too much to overcome. The Huskies would hold the Cardinals to just eight points in the second half but weren’t able to get on the board themselves. The Huskies would lose the contest by a score of 40-0, receiving their first loss of the season.
Leading the Huskies offensively were the duo Lincoln Konrad and Ian Laetsch. Konrad carried the ball a total of 16 times for a hard-earned 36 yards, while Laetsch moved the ball on the ground a total of 16 times for 76 yards. Also earning his stripes offensively was Caleb Davis, who earned two receptions for a total of 32 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball for the Huskies, it was Konrad again, leading the team with nine total tackles. Following shortly behind him with seven each were Laetsch and Davis, with Mason Crumrine getting five of his own.
The Huskies now look ahead to the next opponent on their schedule, the O’Neill Eagles. The Huskies travel 18 miles east to take on the Eagles on the road on Friday, September 8 at 6:30 p.m.
